This project was used in the K-2 age groups during spring break. Students were encouraged to paint a portrait of the Easter Bunny as they believed he would look. Students added individual characteristics to the bunny and pattern to the background.

This project was used during the week before spring break. It was a great filler lessons for the upper half of elementary. I also did it with the younger age groups, but it took them more time to understand and grasp the concepts needed to create a 3-D paper sculpture.
Unit Overview: Students will create their own hybrid animal by combining 2-3 different animals together. Students will experiment with various combinations in order to create a creature of their own based on real life animals. Students will utilize their observational drawing techniques.
Unit Overview: Students will experiment with collage techniques, found objects, and alternative art materials in order to create a mixed media composition. Students will discuss what it means to be an architect and necessary architectural features for buildings.
Unit Overview: Students will experiment with paper mache and yarn in order to create a yarn windchime inspired by Green Art.
This was an experimental unit I tried with my 2nd graders. I definitely would go back and do it with an older age group in the future. It was fun to use recycled materials in this project and talk about how we can use materials that are unorthodox to create something out of the norm. I think it made a lasting impression on the students. It took a while to complete, simply because we had so many half days, assemblies, etc. (Friday class) However, the students were very proud of their work and I hope will hang them in a place where they can see and enjoy them. Unit Overview: Students learned about collage techniques in order to create a collage self portrait. Students used and applied an understanding of proper proportion of the facial features in their collage.
Unit Overview: Students read the book "Rainbow Fish" and talked about texture. Students learned about the two different types of texture - visual and actual. Students applied visual texture to their zentangle rainbow fish and used actual texture to make prints on the background of their rainbow fish composition.
Unit Overview: Students learned about ceramic techniques by creating a personalized ceramic pencil holder. Students utilized pinch pot, score and slip, and sgraffito techniques.
